Viceroy Comics was created to publish comics that have a positive butterfly effect on the world. We strive for quality both in storytelling and artwork.
The company was launched in 2017 by Michael Howe as a subsidiary of his artwork and a way to publish and promote his personal comics, a personal passion of his.
The name Viceroy Comics came about through a process. While watching the Amazon show The Man in the High Castle, Michael saw the references to Ecclesiastes: “the grasshopper lies heavy” and “the grasshopper shall be a burden;” as a statement that even the small things in life can have major effects, especially when orchestrated or empowered by God. So the idea for a title of “grasshopper comics” was born. However, that was taken by a comics shop, and so a search for something with a similar concept came up.
Through that, the Viceroy butterfly was discovered.
Using a Viceroy as a logo carries the same sense of a small insect while hinting at the cool connotation of “the butterfly effect”- the idea that the tiny flap of a butterfly’s wings can influence the weather on the other side of the world.
